Portugal was considered the "Best Tourist Destination in Europe" in the European edition of the World Travel Awards 2022, which has happened for the fifth time in the last six years. The country shone once again in what are considered the 'Oscars' of Tourism, collecting 30 awards. This is the latest on the World Travel Awards 2022, including the Portugal winners list.
"The results are from the vote of thousands of professionals in the sector, from all countries of the world, and this year Portugal collected 30 awards, between destination, regions and products and services," says a statement from the Ministry of Economy and Sea, which oversees the sector.
"Portugal's achievement in the European edition of the World Travel Awards 2022, takes on particular significance after the difficult years of the pandemic. It is with great pride that we see the companies, professionals and entities of national tourism being recognised by their peers at an international level. All agents of the sector are to be congratulated for rising to this challenge which is to affirm Portugal as a tourist destination of excellence, whatever the circumstances", says the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, Rita Marques, quoted in the same statement.
The World Travel Awards have been presented by tourism professionals on a global scale since 1993, honouring work in the tourism industry to stimulate competitiveness and quality in tourism. The world awards ceremony is scheduled for 11th November 2022, in Oman. At the World Tourism Awards in 2021, it should be remembered, Portugal won more than two dozen awards in the European edition of the tourism 'Oscars' and twelve awards at the global event.
